OT Kindle Book Readers - I've got a question

I'm almost finished writing my first novel. Where I currently am at has been professionally edited. I want to publish the first half as a beta to see how well sales would do and to gather general feedback. If you were a consumer buying my half finished book, would .99 cents be too much to ask and or would you buy said book, knowing that its half finished and its sole half assed purpose is to gather info? If tell the public that it is a beta read, would you still pay < $1 to own 8-10k words of a 18-20k novel? If feedback is positive, then those who partook in said beta would get last half for free. General public that didn't partake in beta would have to pay 1.99 for eBook.
TIA
TIA

Again, that's not how books are written... with focus groups and sample groups, etc... just write the damn thing and publish the whole thing.

I have a friend who is an 'amazon author'. He puts out children's books with less than 200 words and a few cheap illustrations. He sells them for .99 to 1.99 depending on how much content is in each book. The thing is he does dozens of these things. He told me he makes more money from the kindle subscription 'free' buys than he does from legit sell buys. It's actually amazing how many 'hits' he gets, he was taken aback at how much traffic he was getting and decided to get serious about it and write material that is worth putting out there and possibly make a difference in the world. A pretty great story.
SO having said that, I think your price range for a novel would be higher but the kindle reader subscription thing sounds like the way to go, because Amazon pays you per/dl and it's unlimited for the users I think. Good luck!

10-4
Will do. I'm at chapter 13 and am aiming for 16-18 chapters. Might as well just finish the whole thing. I already have artwork ready to go. I just need to finish the remaining chapters, format for kindle, the introduction, copyright page, and table of contents. Shouldn't take too much longer. Been writing as a hobby the last two years and dedicating it to my kids.

I've bought 1/4 of books for $.99 each.

I think I might end the last line like this:
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur

Personally I would not pay any money to proofread/critique any half written book. I also would not pay for a book priced $1.99 unless it had several good critical reviews. Too many classics out there to catch up on.

Have you thought about putting it up on wattpad.com? People can read and leave comments on what you put up there and you can gauge feedback. Free to join and read.
