It's about how hard you work and doing a good job. The valedictorian of my class made a 34 on her ACT, dropped out of engineering after 1 year because it was "too hard".
I just don't get how hard it is for people to understand that personal anecdotes do not reinforce nor discredit the population and group level trends and phenomena. In other words, you cannot draw conclusions from a personal experience. It is a logical fallacy (exception fallacy).

You would think someone with an engineering degree could understand that.
