I never "got" Nirvana when they exploded. I was a senior in h.s. headed to college. The music was good but I didn't get his whole hopeless, apathetic thing. I looked at it, I didn't feel stuck, Nirvana didn't appear to be stuck, they were a success so it didn't make sense.

My college roommate "got" it. I remember him telling me after Cobain committed suicide that he was "real", that was what his music was and that he had the guts to go through with it and kill himself. I didn't understand that at all. I realized my roommate and I were in completely different places at that point in our lives.
