Water damaged MacBook Pro

My two year old dumped a glass of water on it a while back. I thought it was toast, but plugged it up tonight and it came on. Keyboard doesn't work and was wondering what the cost would be to repair it?

Which year and which model?
It could be a wide difference in cost depending on the model. For example some of the later models, the keyboard/trackpad/upper case/battery are all glued in place and they must all be replaced as one part.

It's a 2014 15'' Retina Display... Just clicked on guest user since I can't type in my password. Everything seems to be working fine except the keys.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it needs the entire upper case assembly replaced (battery/keyboard/trackpad/case) replaced because these components are all glued to one another in that model.
It will probably be a pricey repair.

Get a couple a big bags of rice and stick it in there.

I said it happened a while back... Rice probably wouldn't do any good now.

Well. Did you stick it in rice when it happened? Why are you just now plugging it in?

Happened almost a year ago. Stuck it in rice right after the fact. Got bored last night and was going to take apart, but it came on!

And we're supposed to divine from your post that "awhile back" means a year ago?

So I just got a quote for $258. Does that sound legit?

Sounds awesome, do it.

Your best bet on the repair is the apple mail in repair. It's a flat rate repair and they will change literally every part that needs to be changed and cover it with a 90 day warranty.

Who did you get that quote from and what are they planning on repairing, specifically. for that price? Is that to replace a specific part or part(s), or is that a flat rate for the entire repair guaranteed?
In general though yes that is a legit price.

Are you sure the flat rate repair is a possible option when the computer has been water damaged? I don't think they let you do the flat-rate repair when the cause of the failure was something like being dropped, spilled on, etc.

I've sent several in for flat rate repair from water damage, drop, etc and they have covered it. Of course there have been times when they will call and say something may have changed and the tier pricing may go up, but it's always been cheaper than bringing it to be repaired.

Sweet, good to know. Luckily I have never damaged a laptop beyond a scuff.
The one time I had something go bad and I got it repaired at the Apple Store, it appeared to be a failing hard drive. It was out of warranty so I replaced the hard drive myself, and the issue still wasn't fixed. I then narrowed it down to being the cable that connects the hard drive to the SATA controller and drove to the Apple Store 10 mins before they closed and convinced them to not only take me without an appointment, but to fix the laptop out-of-warranty for cost of parts only right there immediately.
