Definitely go with a floating bug of some sort. We used to slay some bream with Miss Prissy's and other similar floating poppers. They're suckers for anything bug/critter-like wiggling on the surface
A fly rod is ideal but we did it as kids for many years with regular spinning rods. Watch for trees behind you when loading up that back cast![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

The ol bream getter. When I was a kid, I walked many a creek in Washington Parish slaying bream with that bait. "Fly fishing" my mini cast.

I prefer the black or orange.
Also, nothing like having a catfish hit the top of the water to eat that spider. You just think that a bass is a fight on a fly rod.

I'd forgotten the name of that bait. Appreciate you remindind me of it. WM used to carry it, but stopped doing so some years ago. A fly rod is nice to use, but I've used top waters and spinning reels w/ light weight line to catch bream for many years. I like to tie the top water about 18-24" behind the float. The "Bream Getter" and others already mentioned are good, but through the years I've also used whatever fly is in season for bait.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcool.gif)
