DirecTV Question

Question to DirecTV customers...
My buddy just bought a camp and would like to get cable out there, but doesn't want to pay for another account. He currently has DirecTV and NOT the Genie package.
I was wondering, could he call DirecTV and get them to send him another receiver for an "extra room" in his house, then use that receiver at his camp? He has a spare DirecTV antenna that he can mount onto his camp.
I know you used to be able to do this, but I'm not sure if it can still be done.

Everything that I've ever heard, this is still possible. Lots of people do this and then bring the satellite/receiver to tailgate. I have a customer that has a log cabin in the middle of Wisconsin and he does this.

Yup. No problem at all. The only thing is hook it up at least once every six months, or I should say turn it on.

I've done it the last 2 hunting seasons at our camp

We do it. And I have genie. No issues. Have one of the old larger dvr boxes at the camp and the main genie and genie mini at home.
No issues.

Make sure to get the same dish for the camp as you have were the receiver you are taking with you lives. And learn how to use a compass....well.

Those dishes are so easy to point, especially compared to vsats and such. If you put in your coordinates or zip code, the receiver should tell you your elevation/pitch. Just make sure everything's level and it's a cinch to aim.

It's easy to point the old SD dishes but the HD ones that use five different bands are pretty tough
Usually takes me an hour or so but I've only done it 3 times total

I have found aiming the HD dishes a bit of a pain as well. I don't think it aims directly at a sat and just catches an average signal from them.
