And don't you dare say that other non-female developers don't receive threats on the same level as these chicks.

We both know that isn't true.

can you please give a link where male developers are being told they are going to be raped and killed, have pictures of their homes posted, and have crazed fricks claiming on youtube they were driving to a persons house to frick them up over and over?

and how do you know those men haven't tried to go to the police only to be essentially ignored?

I highly doubt you or anyone here would act like it was no big deal if all the sudden you, your daughter, wife, or son started getting a tons of death/rape threats like these people have so don't even pretend like you would laugh it off like it was no big deal.

I'm sure it's distressing to receive death threats and other extreme forms of hate mail, but 99% of the time it's socially backward misfits venting about the newest entry in their favorite series or genre failing to live up to their expectations.

People get overly passionate about the various forms of entertainment media and form strong unrealistic opinions about them. With the internet, these fricktards get a soapbox and an easy means of sending messages to those they deem responsible for tainting their beloved game, movie, etc.

I wish we lived in a world where people could form coherent rational arguments about things that bothered them, but we don't live in that world.

Nope, because male developers do the exact opposite of draw attention to it. Can you give me a link to a news story where someone made good on their death threat to a game developer/reviewer?

I honestly don't even need evidence to know that male developers/reviewers get similar bullshite thrown at them, because I've received them too. And this was back when I was just a writer/editor of a local magazine. Just a stupid college rag with college humor, low-brow satire, and generally crappy-ish writing that made literally no difference in the world. But people are people and think they matter more than everyone else, and when of those people gets offended, they jump behind their keyboards, and that's where they stay.

Last week, even a figure so beloved as Minecraft’s Notch said that he had started receiving death threats after the free server for Minecraft got shut down. The piece focuses on Robert Bowling, who served as the creative strategist for Infinity Ward when it was making the Call of Duty series. He says that the vast, vast majority of threats seem to come from kids and other people who don’t pose anything close to a real threat, and that absorbing them in stride is just part of what comes with being a public figure in games.

For him, it was like this: “We make an internal decision. Internal decision goes live. YouTube personality disagrees with the decision, makes video rallying the troops against the decision, troops go forth and figure out ways to express that disagreement. That process of finding ways to express the disagreement would typically be a series of trying to one-up each other. It would start with nasty messages online. It would turn into trying to hack my accounts.” The hacking would trigger a battery of e-mails to Bowling regarding attempts to recover “forgotten” passwords. “Once they failed at that, the phone calls and e-mails and the next step of threats would come.”

It’s wild that people who make things that are ultimately inconsequential entertainment should be the subject of so much ire, but gamers are a passionate lot. Unfortunately, the internet gives a loud voice to people who represent only a very small portion of any given community. People sometimes take to the internet to tell someone how much they like their work, but more often people do so to tell people how much they hate something.

From a Forbes article. Took me like 2 seconds on Google to look it up. Now then if you would, in the politest manner possible, go frick yourself.

Hey fricktard,

When COD nerfed the sniper guns, all the male developers got was hate, death threats, etc.

The gaming nerds even went to youtube to threaten Activision and their developing team on COD.

I know for a fact that Vahn receives death threats, he will retweet them.
