well that's just silly.
If you want safe, get a Sweedish mandolin.
If you want ultra thin and infinite adjustments, but the chance of losing a finger tip..get a Japanese mandolin.
Borner
The Borner is excellent, just doesn't have the control settings and thinness of the Japanese style.

I got my Borner from Goodwood Hardware. They also had other brands to choose from.

Go with this one. I have 1 that I bought from Hong Kong Market on Florida for $30. Sharp as anything and easy to clean.
