This isn't a tournament where you are trying to get down to the final person. People will come and go as they please in a cash game. Raising blinds would not do anything but piss people off.

How the frick else do you play a cash game?
Oh I'm sorry I must have misunderstood the OP's question.

Are we talking limit/no-limit? How much money do you think these people will be playing with?
I guess that's another question I should be asking. We're not OT ballers so I'm thinking a minimum $100 buy in. That being said what should I set the max at?
No-limit

Not at the cash games I've played. Hell I see the game end with the last two guys going all in blind just to end the damn game.

You have been playing 13-14 years and have never played in a cash game?
I was thinking the same thing.. But maybe the OP is 18 years old.

Basically, the people staying the longest and keeping the game alive will be rewarded with shallow stacks and no post flop play.

OP is 33 years old. You missed the post where I said I live in a state where there are no casinos. We have only done home tournament style games

No-limit
It doesn't seem like you guys are super into poker so I would do no-limit hold'em since everyone would know the rules. Minimum of $100 is fine if you don't have high blinds.

Don't set some rule against it.
If someone does that bullshite, you rough them up and never invite them back.

Why set a minimum or a max? The people will kind of decide for themselves. If most people are coming in at $100 and somebody wants to sit down with $20 then it's on him/her. I'd suggest limit games for smaller cash games, because then someone can't buy in for $250 when everyone else has $50 and buy pots.

right. but what should I set the max at?

Well they are morons then...and aren't really playing a cash game.
You do realize a cash game ends whenever you decide to get up from the table with whatever chips you have left. I think maybe you are thinking of a tournament, where the winner gets the cash. This isn't the cash game the OP is talking about.

Just do a flat buy-in at $100 and then if they get below $20 in chips let them buy in again for up to another $100.

Perfect. Thanks for the advice 480

We've had a cash game for about 15 years now few pieces of advice.
Start the buy-in small, we usually buy in $20-$40 a person with 25/50 cent blinds. We start at 8pm and the game is very friendly and easy for newcomers from 8 until about 11. By 11 some of the bigger fish have been busted and will re-buy $60-$100. If you walked in at midnight you'd see a completely different game from 8:30. Early on you see a lot of limps people get a lot of action, but later on it's going to cost a good bit to see a flop. This makes the game very easy for new people if they want to stop by lose $20 and go, or for the guys who are there to win (or lose a few hundred.
We also pull 25 cents out of every pot that goes into straight flush money. The main reason we do this is it covers any shortfall if the pots not right so nobody gets screwed at 2 am when half the people left at midnight. Also it keeps pots more interesting if the straight flush has a few hundred in it and people play hands chasing it. It also allows us to buy pizza every now and again since nobody can really get upset if you take money out of the straight flush pot to buy pizza for everybody.
When you play poker for hours and people are re-buying hand after hand and lots of people are drinking it's nice to have a money cushion just in case.

Na, just gamblers. If you're not first you're last.
Edit: and yes I understand what cash means. Look at my first post in this thread where I said people could cash out.

Yeah. It does. That's what you suggested by raising the blinds.
