I'm pretty much every liberals nutjob uncle on the question of the second amendment. But these people walking around with nothing other on their mind than making people shite bricks are definitely not helping the cause.
Cops are dicks, but unfortunately, that's the dick thats going to have to deal with you if you're "That guy" so don't cry about it. And don't expect us to see your YouTube video and come to your aid when you basically provoked it all without cause. I get the reasoning. And technically, yeah, but stop it so we don't all look like what these idiots want to believe we are please.

Walking around in a kilt with a rifle. It's weird, and it's something a crazy person might do.

The guy is walking down the street with a rifle. While it may be legal, its not exactly the same as walking down the street with a lollipop. Im not sure why people cant see the difference here.
For some reason, and I can't figure out why, but some people just want to throw reasonable thought out the window when it comes to 2nd Amendment Rights.

Your title for your OP sucks arse. There was no probable cause to stop Gonzales. You say, in a squeaky voice, "but, but, he was carrying and assault rifle." Still, it is legal, Texas LEO's can not force a person walking to ID themselves and Gonzales did nothing wrong. There's probably 10,000 criminals in a 5 mile radius of that area that have illegal firearms, but they'll run from the police or shoot at you.

Agreed. In this situation cops 100% need to stop the person. It's common sense and anyone that doesn't agree is part of the problem and needs to get off of YouTube.

That cop was as cool as you're going to find. I really think concealed carry is a better option for numerous reasons, but I don't think open carry should be illegal. That said, the guy in the video wanted a confrontation, and YouTube is full of guys doing the same thing. I think this type of behavior hurts our cause.

Exactly. I'm pretty middle road on gun rights, but these provocateurs aren't gaining support for gun rights by doing this.
If a group of young black males were walking down the street brandishing hand guns, most posters here would not be extolling the virtues of liberty.

Like showing ID to get in a casino, purchase age restricted goods & services, operate a motor vehicle, get on an airplane.

Have to start somewhere! I do not appreciate a person looking for a confrontational situation, a poorly prepared person, to get his viral .0005 seconds of fame. These are our rights as well and this guy isn't helping the cause. ??????????

You'll NEVER convince someone who is on the fence on gun ownership by walking around town with an AR strapped to your back.
In a kilt, no less. And the very first thing he does is shout that he does not consent to questioning even before he's been asked anything.
What a dumbass. I'm with the cop on this one.

Except that this chills Constitutionally protected activity. Pointing a weapon at people - discharging the weapon - certainly those can constitute criminal activity, if unjustified, but bearing arms is explicitly protected in the U.S. Constitution.

'Anti-gun loons in O-T Lounge circle jerk over cop harassing law abiding citizen'

A citizen carrying a rifle is no more illegal than having sagging pants while proclaiming yourself to be from a continent you've never even seen.

As a cop, I have the right to approach anyone on the street to talk with them. That is a consensual encounter. The moment I use my position to prevent the other person from leaving (a reasonable person would feel he/she is not free to go) the encounter has risen to some form of detention. The question is whether the detention is legal or constitutionally defensible.
This type encounter - exercising a legal activity that concerns other citizens, thus getting law enforcement involved - is only going to get resolved at the USSC level.

Already been resolved. Anti-gun loons lost.
Now go catch some real criminals who don't legally display their weapons.

This is what is wrong with America. It is perfectly legal to open carry in Texas. Just carrying the rifle is not probable cause, that has been decided by the Supreme Court. You are one of the ones that are willing to give up liberty for safety, and you deserve neither. I bet you believe cops get killed every single day in this country by some gun toting redneck maniac. It just doesn't happen that way. You very rarely hear about a cop being gun down during duty, and when it does happen there is a three day memorial and a huge parade. When cops kill some unarmed suspect nobody gives a shite. Welcome to the police state.
