Always been fascinated by actor and director chemistry. Not sure what's the best way to judge these. Box office draw? the actual quality of work done together (subjective)
If there's any glaring omissions feel free to add
Scorsese/ Deniro - Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Cape Fear, Casino, Good fellas, the King of Comedy
Ridley Scott/ Russell Crowe - Body of Lies, American Gangster, A Good Year, Robin Hood , Gladiator
Kurosawa/ Mifune - many wonderful films
Burton/ Depp - Alice in Wonderland, Charlie & Chocolate Factory, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, Dark Shadows
Carpenter/ Russell - The Thing, Big Trouble In Little China, Escape From New York
Scorsese/ DiCaprio - Wolf of Wall Street, Gangs of NY, Shutter Island, The Departed, The Aviator
John Huston/ Bogart - the Maltese Falcon, the African Queen, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Key Largo
Soderberg/ Clooney - Solaris, Oceans 11, 12, & 13, Out of Sight
Wes Anderson/ Bill Murray - Rushmore, the Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr Fox, the Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, the Life Aquatic
I'm compelled to throw John Ford/ John Wayne in there because they did 21 films together including The Quiet Man, Stagecoach, The Searchers, etc

Lots of terrible movies listed in OP. ESPECIALLY Ridley/Crowe list. Scorcese/Deniro and Anderson/Murray salvage it
1. Herzog/Kinski
The rest

I would actually say: Wes Anderson/Owen Wilson

What about Fincher & Pitt?
Seven, Fight Club and Benjamin Button.

Well I just tried to list the most recognizable films from each pairing. not sure how else to do it
And I guess your submission can be added. just based on the universal adoration of Klaus kinski lol

I actually thought about that. it just seemed 3 films opened the door to a shitload of smaller bodies of work between actor/director and watered down the subject

You zeroed in on that list when it sits right above Burton/Depp?

Strongest contender to De Niro/Scorcese that's been mentioned.

it's a given, I didn't need to mention
Wicked, I clearly excluded the Scorcese/Deniro movies

Dude those Scorsese/ DiCaprio and Wes Anderson are some really good films. don't be a dipshit
I'm also a huge Tim Burton fan, but I get that he's not for everyone and that he's bludgeoned everyone to death with Depp

Hard to top this one - on a quality, picture-for-picture, performance-for-performance basis.

This is probably the biggest challenge to Scorcese/Deniro and the Duke was a movie star, not really an actor (but Ford was the better director - there I said it.)

Carson - You know I love you, but you have to get off the crack - for good this time.
Gladiator alone negates your terrible characterization (although I don't really care for much of the rest of it, other than American Gangster - and Ridley is my favorite director).
