Bond question: Wife just found out she has some from grandmother...

and she is looking to cash them in.

Is there a reason she shouldn't divest of them now? Is it a bad time to do this? Not a crazy amount, but I don't know anything about bonds. We don't really need the money but could definitely put it to good use. Thanks.

Bonds are at historic highs right now, but you will have to tell us more about the bonds if you want a good answer. She might be throwing away a ton of money depending on the structure.

Bond quality? Maturation date? Callable?

What's your situation like? Do you have cash needs? Etc..

Sounds like you are talking about savings bonds, google treasury direct and they have a section that you can enter info form each bond and it will tell you how much they are worth now and how they are worth the older they get, use that info to make your decision, but also remember that you will be taxed on the interest earned on the bonds in the year that you cash them
