"Five bags, like this, are filled with plastic for every foot of coastline in the world," said Jambeck.
The plastic ends up not just floating on top of the ocean, it goes all the way down to the bottom.
"Some of it tends to sink and some of it tends to float and we are not even sure what happens to the fragments when they get below a certain size," said Jambeck.
They found that 20 countries are responsible for more than 80 percent of the plastic going into the ocean annually. China is the worst -- with about 2.4 million tons. The United States is number 20, responsible for about 750,000 pounds.

My single largest complaint about people who live in the south, specifically Louisiana, is the littering. It's embarrassing.

Throw it in the ocean or have it hauled to a landfill... what's the difference? It's not like they take all our garbage and send it into space.

I know most on this board are kidding, but it surprises me how much moderate income people litter. I can understand low income/low IQ people, that don't care and don't understand. But a generally average guy just throwing trash out their truck window, or letting trash fly out back of truck?.......I guess that is the definition of trashy.
