No Reply At All

(ETA: This track illustrates Mike Rutherford as one of the most underrated bass players of that era - really, really good bass player.)

(And more - the horns are EWF's horn section )

You sort of have to decide on weird Gabriel era or fun pop era. I think this starts to morph into the pop era. I have no idea what Phil's accent is (though the video obviously suggests Owlie/Mexican).
"Illegal Alien."

Lamb Lies Down is my favorite. While I do like some of the Collins stuff, I hate a lot of it as well.

Can anyone recommend a Gabriel era Genesis album? I like the Collins era & Gabriel solo stuff, but never really tried Gabriel era Genesis.

It's just that when Phil Collins took over, they became a pop band, not a prog band...

Very underrated pre-1976. After that highly overrated.

Tony Banks

Rutherford never needed to be a guitar hero. Sonically, Banks was the meat & potatoes of their sound. And I love some of the post-Gabriel era. Listen to Collin's singing and playing on "Genesis". I'd agree with that album being the portence to a more mainstream sound, but it's a great record.

Not really. They're pretty much heralded as being the definitive prog rock band, aside from Pink Floyd.

Honestly, I kind of hate Peter Gabriel.
