New Iberia man barricaded inside home since approximately 4PM

Maj. Ryan Turner with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies have been trying to make contact with the man inside home, but he has not responded to them.

Turner said there are no hostages inside the home and they are unsure if there are weapons inside the house.

Some neighbors have been evacuated from their homes as a safety precaution and the nearby roads have been closed, Turner said.

Turner said the sheriff's office received the call at about 4 p.m.

The SWAT team has been called out to help, Turner added.

I've got family that live on one of the streets that are closed. Pretty busy neighborhood in a nicer part of town. Authorities have had the streets shut down since 4PM. Supposedly the man has some mental problems and my family is saying they've heard shots fired in the last few minutes, perhaps tear gas.
