Question about cooking ribs

Let me start off by pissing off the rib connoisseurs by saying I boil the ribs before I put them in the smoker.
Do you peel off the membrane backing before you put them in the smoker?
It seems I read or heard you should this and I have for years. But it can be a pain in the arse and not removing it seems to help the ribs stay together.

Peel membrane every time and wouldn't dare boil meat I am wanting to put a smoke flavor on low and slow.
I peel the membrane by using a knife to pull an edge away and then finish peeling away with a paper towel. Works really fast and easy.
You must do it to speed up the cook time but I would think you don't gain a full smoked flavor???

I read an interesting article from a famous chef who never peels the membrane. He says it helps them stay moist. Most experts though say to remove it.

I do not peel or boil. I like the taste of membrane in the morning.

Peel if you want a fall off the bone rib. Do not peel if you want some bite.
Personally, I'm for the latter.

I rarely remove the membrane.

Maybe it's just me, but I took that as sarcasm.

When that membrane gets crispy and smokey, I love it.

I always peel and have excellent bite using the 2,2,1 method in my Masterbuilt electric smoker.

I guess I'm different. That membrane and those crunchy crispy wing tips are two things I love. I can't understand anyone not loving them!

Haha, I was agreeing with you. I love it, too.

i prefer the meat "overcooked" and falling off the bone

For me, if the meat is falling off the bone, what's the point of cooking ribs? Just overcook pork and enjoy.
It's sort of like going to a crawfish boil and having the crawfish already peeled. No fun.
I like that slight pull necessary to get the meat off the bone. Then, I scrape that bone clean with my teeth. So yummy and fun.
