quote:
the off-duty officer was walking his dog when another dog, a 6-year-old retriever mix named Princess, attacked
quote:
The officer said he shot the dog because he felt threatened.
quote:
He says they both dug a hole on the side of the garage and went out front, and that's when the officer's dog was attacked.
Witnesses say the officer followed the dogs onto their owner's property.
Torres says the officer shot three times, but only one bullet hit Princess
quote:
Torres says both Rocky and Princess have never acted like this before and understands why the officer protected his dog, but says shooting at them was overboard.
The Torreses were given two citations

meh. Defending his dog.
Even Cialis won't keep your anti-cop hard-on nice and stiff for the full 4 hours over this "earth-shattering" news story.

He followed the dog onto the owner's own private property and then shot it. That's not an act of self-defense.

It reads to me like the attack was happening as the dogs moved onto the neighbor's property, and that the shooting was in fact meant to protect his dog from the ongoing attack. If the story is saying that the man followed the attacker dog and shot it AFTER the attack had stopped, then I'm mistaken.
Nevertheless, this doesn't seem to have anything to do with the man being a cop.

Surely the cop's dog was on a leash. After all they cited the owner of the dog that got shot with a violation for having an unleashed dog.
Are you saying that the dog was so strong that it drug the cop and his dog into the owner's yard? How did you come to that conclusion?

Police say the officer fired his weapon, shooting Princess. Juan Torres says Princess was his aunt's dog, along with a 5-year-old pit bull named Rocky. He says they both dug a hole on the side of the garage and went out front, and that's when the officer's dog was attacked.
Hmm I wonder whose dogs were the problem. These things tend to involve trashy people with trashy dogs.

When a dog is on a leash and is approached by a dog off leash, the leashed gets overly defensive no matter the training.
I can see the issue with two dogs being off leash attacking a leased dog, it's a scary situation for the leased dog, at that point most times you're better off letting the leash go and let them sort it out calmly.
I blame any dog owner that let's their dog get off leash in the neighborhood, it's simply irresponsible dog ownership. Obviously sometimes you truly can't avoid it. This case it seems "princess" dug her way out, and probably wasn't her first time.
The gun was probably way over excessive. A large wooden stick or pepper spray would have been a better choice.

It is indeed trashy as frick. Im not gonna lie, I would be infuriated if there were a pit roaming my neighborhood. I don't trust them at all.
I just question how necessary it was to follow the dogs onto private property and shoot at them. I question things. It's in my nature.

He had to drop the leash to fire, I'm sure.
Owners are trained to do that if they feel threatened.

How do I sign up for dog owner training ?
Posted on 2/6/15 at 1:19 am to GregMaddux
Read books, peruse the internet, take dog training classes and pay attention to the trainer and ask questions.
If you're being a chode, then frick you.
If you're being a responsible owner, there are lots of resources out there.

My dog is such a vagina. I know there will be a day when I have to choke a dog out to protect us both. It's statistics.

Carry a walking stick. Putting your hands near a dogs neck/mouth in a fight is a great way to get bitten. Badly.
And never go to the ground with one.
If you find yourself breaking up a dog fight, pull the hind legs of the aggressor and/or make a shite ton of noise and act like a crazy person.
Never reach in the middle, you will get bitten.
