Is this common?

Happens all the time and all schools do this. Usually a school that will do this will try to get the kid a scholie at a lower division school or help him get a ride somewhere else.

Deadspin had an article today on Petrino: Bobby Petrino is Still Scum

Opening paragraph:
quote:

Bobby Petrino's coaching career has been a series of escapes. Not even one year after signing a 10-year extension with Louisville, he jumped to the Atlanta Falcons; bailed on the NFL after 13 games; went to Arkansas, where got the boot after wrecking his motorcycle with his mistress on the back; hopped to Western Kentucky with a clause that contractually obligated him to pay the school if he left early, and left early anyway to return to Louisville. So, combining Petrino's history with the heartless nature of college football recruiting, this story of a screwed-over recruit is merely disgusting, but not surprising.

SBNation had a more in-depth piece on Petrino's career last January. LINK
Apparently, the sneakiness goes back quite far:
quote:

Favorite Petrino story: He was Jaguars' OC in 2001 when I covered them. Sneaked away to Auburn after season without telling Coughlin. (1/2)
— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) January 8, 2014

Coughlin wasn't aware Petrino had left until Auburn announced his hiring. Coughlin was furious, supposedly never spoke to him again. (2/2)

Also does he really call the Redskins the Washington Redacteds?

He refers to them as something other than their actual name. Usually it's "the Washing football/NFL team" or "the Washington (insert DC reference like Capitols, Presidents, etc)".

This he did. He has always done charity work in Louisville. Don't tell the butt hurt UK fans that though.

And lots of nice coaches have done the same thing Petrino did to this kid.

Is this seriously still a story?

A) Other Coaches do it.
B) Petrino has a stink on him that is so strong, he will ALWAYS be a target. He made his own bed.
