Why is the NFL so against the legalization of sports betting?

just listening to SVP and they're having a similar talk right now
I don't really buy the "it would jeopardize the integrity of the games" load of crap. I think it has more to do with them having a problem with state's collecting tax money off of their product and they haven't figured out a way to profit off if it just yet.

speaking of sports betting, louisiana needs to legalize it

I mean, the degenerates are already betting on the games anyway. Legality isn't stopping them.
I like betting but am not willing to do it anywhere outside of Vegas.
I think it's all about what cut the government gets on taxes.

the NFL would become professional wrestling or worse, college football.

the NFL should ask Europe how gambling ruins soccer

oddly enough the sport you'd think would have good reason to be against it, the NBA, has a commish willing to discuss it
quote:
Adam Silver: I believe that sports betting should be brought out of the underground and into the sunlight where it can be appropriately monitored and regulated.
quote:
He's relaxed, though not unguarded. "One of my concerns is that I will be portrayed as pro sports betting," he says. "But I view myself more as pro transparency. And someone who's a realist in the business. The best way for the league to monitor our integrity is for that betting action to move toward legal betting organizations, where it can be tracked. That's the pragmatic approach.

Because they can't control it and they don't get a cut from it.
Remember kids:
Point spreads: BAD
Dropping hundreds of dollars on fantasy: GOOD

Probably because they won't get a cut of the action. If the NFL ran their own sports betting you can bet they would be pushing hard for it to be legal.

apparently you can play but you just can't cash out. Which is pointless.
but didn't some people find a way to beat that? I thought I remembered some people talking about it on the fantasy board.
as easy as it would be to be down on the NFL this past season... I was able to stay interested because of Fan Duel. Made a nice little stack of cash on the side. They only take 10% of your winnings out each time you cash out.

I think some said you could use another person's address, but then you'd be fricked once it came time to cash out

It's so fricking dumb. The casino industry is a highly regulated, multi-billion dollar business. The guy who runs the sports book at Caesar's Palace isn't going to be offering Drew Brees $20,000 to rig a game. They're making a killing at the casino from all the dopes who are throwing down money and don't know how to bet. Matter of fact, the last point shaving scandal in college basketball was triggered when a Vegas sports book noticed weird stuff was happening to the line and they let the authorities know.
I think it a case of the old-arse NFL owners thinking that Vegas is like it was in the 50s and 60s, and the greedheads who run the league being pissed that someone would make a buck off pro football and they couldn't get part of it

Because it's better for it to be illegal. Think about it. Who regulates it now, and who would run it if it were legalized?
Betting is better when it's a societal vice.
