How to Ask for Her Number?

Is protocol still only asking for numbers in person? I know the chick, but we know each other through mutual friends and are friends on social media.
No doubt she'll give me the number, just don't want to do something that's a turn off.
I'm sure I'll catch some shite but I haven't had to do this since before Facebook or Myspace.

It's always easiest to get the number in the context of it being bundled with an invitation for something coming up

Tell your friend that your interested and ask them to set you up if you don't see them on a regular basis. (double date)
Otherwise wait until you see them again.
