Tyrann Mathieu.
With him, LSU beats Alabama in regular time in game #1 so that Ok State is the opponent in the champ game.
National champion.
TM7 = first round draft pick, and many times more money.

I can see RP being the one that hurt the team the most because Lee and JJ had to play so young (also the one who went to Harvard after he broke his leg or arm), but he got to start at J-ville State and he did not make it in the pros.
He had his shots.

based on what? HS film? please. So many players have come to LSu and switched positions and were fine. This kid just didnt have it. We have guys on the team last year that put up better passing numbers as a hs qb than shep did, one of them played rb.
he got to play QB and was not up to it. And he couldn't adjust to make a catch either.
I am glad he is making a living in the NFL. I hope he continues to perfect his craft. I do not see Shep in the same class as the addicts and didn't go to class guys. Shep was a good guy who was appreciated by the staff. He never messed up his life. He just was not all that good at what he was doing.

Alley Broussar may have been as dominate a running back as LSU has ever had until he got hurt. If he would have put the work in he could have made it back. Not all his fault but sad none the least.

What?
Mathieu played that entire season.

Cecil without question. Dude was an unbelievable talent that wasted it on being a complete dumb frick numerous times. Is he still in jail? At least Perrilloux isn't a complete piece of shite like Cecil. He was just a complete moron. Like no one will know who you are trying to get into a casino in Baton Rouge

I say honorable mention to Justin Vincent...
Incredible freshman season, especially the last few games of it.
The ACL tear didn't help, but I'm told his affinity for Bogie's is what did him in.

He missed the Auburn game due to suspension, and you could argue he missed the championship game because mentally, he was checked out.

I'd go Cecil, but Perriloux would have done much more for the team. All things considered, both Perriloux and Cecil were good enough to win a heisman. Cecil could have been in talks as one of the greatest LSU and college RBs in history. Perriloux could have been in talks as one of the greatest LSU and SEC QBs in history.
With the pass catchers we had in 2008 (Byrd, LaFell, Toliver, Dickson) and the RBs, that team could have went to the SEC Championship game despite the horrible defense. In the losses against UGA and Bama, Lee threw 7 picks and 3 or 4 went for pick 6s. He could have also beaten Ole Miss that year. I'd say we would have at least went to the BCS bowl.
In 2009, we had LaFell, Toliver, and Randle at WR to go along with Dickson in his final year. While the OL was bad, we'd have a 4th year QB at the helm with a decent defense and a loaded passing game. If JJ did what he did as a true sophomore with a non existent running game and horrible arse OL, what do you think a possible heisman candidate would have done??? IMO, we'd beat UF with Tebow who could only HB dive most of the game. We'd beat Alabama who beat us by 9 with a ton of help by the refs and LSU injuries. We also wouldn't have had that bullshite debacle at Ole Miss. That 2009 team was good enough to go undefeated with a top level QB.
You guys have seen how much having a top level QB changes a team. It's the difference between a regular season 8 loss team and a 1 loss team (see TCU), it's the difference between a 9 loss team and a 1 loss team (see Auburn).

RP or JR.
JR probably had the most talent of any QB ever at LSU, had top receivers yet never won a championship. Even JJ and Lee won an SEC Championship.
RP, also talented, wasted it all. Never even started except when Flynn was injured.

JR wasn't even in the same league as YA or Bert Jones. He was not the best ever talent. He was probably even with TH

Anyone who does not say Cecil Collins is very new to LSU football.
He was Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson rolled into 1 package and threw it all away.
He played what, 3 or 4 games at LSU and was legendary in all of them until he injured his leg and followed that by losing his mind.
