Just got into the whole wood-working thing. First attempt ever ended with a nice 7ft bookcase.

Here it is about 90% stained.

Lessons learned so far

1.) Cutting straight sounds easier than it is
2.) It takes forever to find a complete project worth of straight boards at Lowe's.

AMEN to both of these. When i'm building a pine tabletop, i usually go to Home Depot 2-3 times before i have enough boards.

My latest table, in the middle of staining it dark walnut. Will be putting it for sale on FB/craigslist, hoping to do this a few times and get me a new lawn mower this spring. We'll see how that works out.

This is so true. I've taken almost every board down off the rack just to find three straight boards, and then had to put them all back up. You get a good workout finding straight boards at Lowes.
