But seriously, if it's your first time in a place, what's wrong with doing all the tourist stuff??

Because it is way more important to be hipster cool rather than actually enjoy what a new city has to offer.

Nothing wrong with touristy stuff, but you painted a pretty big divide there.

Telling them to not waste their time standing in line for ACME or Mothers, for example, is very good advice. They can get better seafood elsewhere without the tourist issues (crowds).

Telling them to avoid the places with "seafood" on Bourbon street with workers standing at the door trying to lure you in.. also good advice.

I like to see the places that locals think are the best when I visit other cities.

Of course, some of the tourist stuff is fine.. go see Jackson Square, stop in at Cafe du Monde, go see some jazz (although this isn't necessarily touristy anyway), etc.
