I agree with you gfunk. The one thing that they didn't tell you is that it cost about 2 million as well to travel the team, band, and it's entourage. So that's only a net income of about 2 million. It makes no sense to travel and impact someone else's economy (Houston or Dallas) when it's the state of Louisiana and mainly the Baton Rouge business that support LSU athletics. These local businesses are the ones who support the program and donate money to their causes (TAF), and give the Athletes summer jobs. I found it appalling that the university choses to dilute the at home schedule to travel away for a game. The economic impact of one home game has to be in the 10's of millions of dollars when you consider the food & beverages sold for tailgates, restaurants serving meals, hotel stays, fuel at gas stations for travel, etc. when you take this out of state you are stealing from the ones that support the program. LSU is not "dancing with the one that brought them to the dance." Not to mention the watered down schedule with 4 weak games is a joke. It draws no attendance for the university to up sell concessions and merchandise and hurts the local businesses as well. Sorry for the rant, but I'm shock to see that people don't see the effect of moving a game out of state!

You can't have it both ways. Let's say LSU could magically create a schedule that played 1 or 2 of the best teams from the other Power 5 conferences every year. We'd always have only 7 home games because we'd always be returning a trip to the Okalhomas, Florida States, UCLA's of the world. You can't get top flight teams to come play in Baton Rouge without going back to their place. It just doesn't happen.

That's why the neutral site games are such a big hit with all the schools. They get to play the tougher matchups without having to guarantee a return anywhere.

$2 million to bring the team and band to Dallas? If the flights were $500 for 1st class tickets you could fly 4,000 people to the game.

If you are counting expenses it cost a whole lot more to have a home game than to travel.

There is no fricking way it costs $2 Million to send the team and staff/band to Dallas or Houston.

Full band, color guard, Golden Girls, and associated directors, coaches, etc - Lets say conservatively 400 people.

Travel roster, coaching staff, trainers, equipment managers, etc - 100 people?

That's 500 people at $4000 a piece to reach $2 million in expenses.

I'd be surprised if the band/Golden Girls flew to Houston. Hell, the team may not have even flown.

Link? The team is put in hotels for home games too and have their meals provided.
