Anyone ride a float in a Shreveport parade?

We are a late addition to the Highland parade. I don't have much info yet. Assuming its a smaller "float".
About how many beads do we need to get per person? How much money will that cost?
Any other tips or suggestions?

I live on the route of the Highland Parade. Always a good time.
I think you would need at least 2 sacks of beads plus a few dozen footballs, frisbees, stuffed animals, etc. Spend $250 or so.

I got the opportunity to ride in Gemini last year and the one thing I learned (which probably should have been common sense) is that you'll never have enough. I'm not sure how many beads are in whatever package you're looking to get, but I went through probably 800-1000 beads, not counting all the other fun things. I'd definitely go to Centaur and Gemini parades and gather as many of their beads as you possible can, cut down on your cost that way. Highland is an amazing parade to watch, I've never ridden in it, but I imagine the rules are more relaxed than Gemini...hell people throw hot dogs at Highland.
I guess my advice is to not blow your bead load at the beginning of the parade, make sure you ration your stuff. And don't forget to pause every once in a while and look around, it's an amazing experience.

I rode a float called Pawl Allen's mom last night.

I'll live in Shreveport 100 years before I live one day in Baton Rouge.
To the OP, the Highland parade is the best. I've ridden in it once, and I found that about $300 will suffice for throws if you pace yourself throughout the parade. When I rode, there were more people toward the end of the route.

Thanks for the advice. I live right around the block from the Highlands route. My wife got us a last minute float. I'm going to be driving. But it will be a first for our family not being in the crowd.
What's the best place for getting beads and other trinkets?

That one I'm not sure about. My situation last year was that of taking someone's place and she had already gotten all the beads and everything so I didn't have to worry about that. It might be expensive, but the first place I can think of is Tubbs Hardware, here in town. It might be cheaper to take a trip to NOLA? I'm just not sure.

Road in Highland a couple of years ago. Weather was great and the turnout was unbelievable. Much of that had to do with Gemini being basically rained out the day before.
We "recycled" old beads and supplemented that with beads from Sams. Not sure if they still sell them, but they did then.
