Simo Hayha (sp?) still probably the best ever. Hathcock probably the best American.

Simo "Simuna" Häyhä nicknamed "White Death" used Iron sights so he was better concealed. I can't shoot 25 yards accurately with iron sights. I suck.

Not all of Simo's was from long range either. Often he would jump out from his hiding place and unload on a group of unsuspecting victim's before disappearing into the wilderness. And his optics were primitive.
