I thought Belichick's main point was that the footballs are calibrated to the proper weight in the warm locker room. Then when they are taken outside, the cold air causes them to deflate over the next hour or two.

He doesn't even have a doctorate. Just a BS

Except the Colts' balls were legal and one of the Pats* balls stayed compliant, even though all 24 were subject to the same conditions. The fixed balls also didn't deflate during the second half.
Of course, this would be a non-story if it weren't for the fact that the Pats* are habitual offenders.

Except we don't know what psi the colts balls were at or how low the patriots psi was short when it was checked. So we don't know shite basically.

quote:Yeah, going to Cornell, being taught by Carl Sagan, being a mechanical engineer for Boeing, having an 18x Emmy award winning educational science program and his own lab where he's inventing instruments to help us go to Mars.. Meh.
i have been curious the past few years how bill nye, who is not an academic (but did go to a great undergard school) became the face of science
Posted on 1/25/15 at 11:36 am to goldenbadger08
But he doesn't have that piece of paper on the wall
Posted on 1/25/15 at 12:46 pm to sbr2
Bill Nye is a poor mans Professor Proton.
Posted on 1/25/15 at 1:00 pm to sbr2
being an academic requires a LOT more than a "piece of paper"
has he ever been published? i went to look up his CV and the page was down on his site

Rofl...for days belicheat said he knew nothing about footballs and pressure now all of a sudden he knows..dude is a flat out liar and cheat period.
Posted on 1/25/15 at 1:10 pm to SlowFlowPro
Nah dude he won Emmys and had an undergrad class with Sagan. He is the science guy.

Who decided that Bill Nye is a legitimate source for anything outside of children's programming?
No one cares about you anymore Bill, fade away with dignity.

You're not too bright are you? He didn't know about it in his initial press conference, and then spent a couple days learning about the process and simulating the process and talking to experts to form a possible reason for this to have happened
You would know that if you would actually read what he said instead of just spewing bullshite

His resurgence from being a kid's tv show host, along with the rise of Neil De Grasse Tyson, is emblematic of a generational trend of people pretending to be nerds because it makes them sound cool. Lots of tool millennials out there who sit on reddit all day and think science can be summed up through some memes and AMAs with Tyson. That is why Nye is still "relevant."

Belichek doesn't make any sense in the fact that the weather would affect ALL 12 balls the same not 11/12.
It's clear to see what they did. Under inflate the 11 balls and keep one at the correct psi to show to officials if they had any questions.

Belicheck is wasting a couple of days researching science instead of prepping for the Super Bowl. Yap sure
You are brainwashed

Bill Nye should address the MIT guy. Bill is not a scientist.

Umm he also took time out of his week to do this press conference. And yes he took time to get this right and he's pissed he had to do it

“Having coached for 40 years in the National Football League, played for several years, growing up in a football family, being around this game my entire life, it’s clear that I don’t know very much about this area. Over the last few days, I’ve learned a lot more than I ever knew, like exponentially more.

“I’ve talked to and gathered a lot of information from members of our staff. I have talked to other people familiar with this subject in other organizations and we have performed an internal study of the process and I think there’s certainly other things that I can do, maybe other research that can be done.
quote:
So, I just want to share with you over the last week, I'm embarrassed to talk about the amount of time I've put into this relative to the other important challenge in front of us," Belichick said, referring to the team's Super Bowl matchup against the Seattle Seahawks next Sunda

This thread has it all. Cheating in football, political leanings and motivations of physicist, and the qualifications of a kids show scientist to make comments on the psi of a football.
