Not exactly. Defending yourself in your home carries much more legal defense assurance than out in public or in your car. But it is contained inside your property.

In LA you can have your handgun anywhere in your car as previously stated. In some states like AL, you must have some kind of permit to keep your ammo with your gun in your car. If you have a permit from a state that is respected in the other state (AKA reciprocity) then you can skirt past this. I see this as being the best benefit of a CC license.
