Damn! That sucks. He really was a great teacher & a great guy.
ETA: Kinda surprised to hear that he was still teaching there. I graduated in '97 and had him for physics the second half of my senior year (Mrs. Cain left halfway through the year to go back to BASF).

Or when he would "argue" with other teachers in the hallways in between or during classes. I remember him and Mr. Manning going at it. Good times.
Just one mention of Prohaska's name and he would lose it, so we started telling him Prohaska was our favorite teacher. I wasn't there for it, but apparently one day Prohaska gave him a clicker to use and he slammed it into the ground and it shattered

Very sad news. He was a great teacher and very funny. God help you if you fell asleep in his class

Man what a sad day. Sollie was absolutely one of my favorite memories of CHS.
Idk if he did this every year, but in my grade he gave everyone nicknames. Mine was Sam, and we had an actual guy named Sammy in my same class. We would never know who he was actually calling on and he would get so "mad" when the wrong one answered.
Also loved when anyone came in late, he would bust out that fricking giant clicker pen and sign the late slip
So upsetting that he's gone

He was a great teacher and made going to physics class fun because of his charisma. RIP
Side note - Didn't know so many of y'all were CHS grads, cheers.

Super depressing day. I remember one day he tied his tie too short, so I made some crack about him being too tall for regular sized ties.
He faked laughed, then immediately turned his face super serious, and said "you ever make fun of my fashion sense again and I'll strangle you with this very tie." Then he smiled and asked the screw up of the class a Physics-related question like nothing had ever happened.
Very sad day indeed. Catholic lost one of the greats in him.
But I want to thank you all for the stories. It's a small way to remember a great man.

Sad news, as is evident in this thread he will certainly be missed.
I remember he would post up at the entrance by the courtyard in the mornings watching the senior parking lot so he would be the first thing/person I'd see in the morning and I had him for last period and he'd be the last I'd see at the end of the day.
It was great, he would always have something funny/sarcastic to say. What a way to start and end the school day.

I know that his son is aware of this thread:
I think it's pretty evident that your father had a real impact on many people's lives, and if there is any solace to take away from this, it's that the man you knew as the greatest father, friend, and mentor was considered just that - a father figure, friend, and mentor - to countless people. You and your family are lucky to have been a part of such a rare person's life, and he was lucky to be able to go home after dealing with us all day to the comfort of yall's love.

While mentioning his kids, I have a worthwhile story. Someone asked what his daughters name is. He responded, "gertrude" of course this wasn't true but he was so quick with those ridiculous responses.

Prayers sent. What a great guy.
He always said "ob-stacle" instead of "obstacle" just because it drove a kid in class crazy.

I still pronounce "moon" like "mun" because of him. Also "column" is pronounced "call-yoom".

Thank you for this. About to watch Hooch give the homily. Going to do my best to stay away from anyone chopping onions in my office.
