I did see they were going to add a lunch menu at the new location.
It was very surprising to find out kolaches aren't very well known outside of Texas. They are simple to make and delicious.

I don't want to say kolaches are overrated, but I don't get the appeal. I'm no kolache aficionado, but I've had more than a few and they're almost always dry.
What is the appeal of a kolache?

This.
Here is my story from the Popeyes on Staring and why I will never go there again. It was around 2005 when I lived off of Staring while in grad school. I went through the drive through and ordered some food. Of course, the lady told me to pull into a parking spot because it wasnt ready. After waiting 30 minutes for someone to bring me ny order, i went back around to the drive through and asked "Where's my order?". The "lady" replied "What was your order?" I was so pissed off, I drove off.

yOU ARE not eating good ones. I stopped off in West at the original/first kolache bakery in Texas last month on my way back from Austin called Village Bakery. It is not the one on the service road of 35 most people stop at. You have to drive 5 minutes into downtown West. Great mom & pop place. Pop's was sitting there making small talk.....we had to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom.

They're a staple at bakeries wherever there is a large Polish population. My sister-in-law in Chicago makes a huge batch of them every holiday season. In Chicago they're called kolachkes, not kolaches. I think kolache may be the Czech spelling.

There's a Popeye's literally 2 miles away on Government Street between Jefferson and Foster.
Trust me, this is an improvement

There can never be too much Popeyes.
