how do you set this up and what does it do for you?

if you put the unit in your attic, don't make a straight run out the roof. water will blow in the roof vent, and if the wh is directly below the vent, water will tend to accumulate in the very sensitive electronics. ask me how i know.

the stainless vent pipe was almost as expensive as the water heater. the vent is now offset with a drip leg directly below the vent cap.
