My friend is the Mexico expert and he'd tell you, as he told me, to stay in Playa del Carmen. You can ferry to Cozumel which has some of the best diving in the world. I was just there in December. If you do stay in Cancun, definitely go to Isla Mujeres.

Here's his all-inclusive adults only recs he made for me:
Royal Hideaway
or
El Dorado Sea side by Karisma
or he said he liked this one too
El Dorado Maroma

Congrats and enjoy

Don't know what others have said.

BUT

We did Excellence resort in Playa Mujeres. I think it's just north of Cancun.

Can not recommend it enough. Absolutely wonderful. Look it up on trip advisor.

Check out www.amresorts.com if you are stuck on Mexico as they have a ton of options. Also have locations in St. Thomas, Dominican Republic, Curaçao and Costa Rica. They are also building one in Panama right now. We stayed at the Secrets Puerto Los Cabos in Mexico in May and it was awesome.

So is all inclusive the way to go for honeymooning? We are both of the mind that doing our own thing would be more fun, but I'd like to save money as well. I was planning on booking something through vrbo.com on USVI or St Lucia and doing more exploring than resort stuff.

Couples Negril in Jamaica. All inclusive and couples only. No kids or anyone trying to hit on your spouse. Loved it.

We went to Iberostar Grand Bavaro on our honeymoon and it was great. All inclusive, no kids, and a beautiful property. It's the number one rated resort in Punta Cana. We went back last year also with a few couples.

If you're a golfer, take a cab ride to the Punta Espada golf course and play a round. It's amazing!

Looking at Mexico. Not sure about sandals because they're pretty expensive. Any suggestions for Mexico?

Don't put yourself in too big of a hole. But NEVER skimp on an all inclusive. It's the difference between meat ANC cheese in a quesadilla or velveeta and ham. It's the difference between the shits or no shits. It's the difference between real Mexican beers and brown bottle corona poured from a 40. It's the difference between you fighting a douche who is hitting on your wife when you go piss and meeting some nice people who will be cool to hang out with when you're not making babies.

If you are still looking at Mexico check out Cabo. Was just there after thanksgiving and stayed at an all inclusive part of the time. Was really nice.

But like Wick said turks and caicos is just beautiful as well.

Can anyone tell me how the beach and water are at Excellence Playa Mujeres? That's where I'm headed for my honeymoon in June. Fiancée loves the beach and water so I'm hoping it's not bad.

we stayed at Secrets Silversands, Riviera maya in September for our Honeymoon.

I'd never recommend it to anyone because of the service and shitty food. Had to bribe bartenders to give more than 2 beers at a time. The room service food was terrible. Adults only, meant to me, was topless 60 year olds.

We did meet and hung out with 6 other couples the whole time so that made it a ton better.

would've preferred playa del Carmen after seeing it
