Cable & Internet

What are you paying for basic cable & internet? Anyone go without it all together?
Everything I've found is $140/month+. Seems a bit ridiculous for the few hours a month I watch TV.
All I want is the basic channels + ESPN & the outdoor channel. I have netflix and I don't really watch too much TV.
thanks in advance,

Haven't had it in years. Netflix and Prime are enough for me. I don't miss it one bit.

I have a post about cutting cable on the tech board. I pay $137 a month for directv. I've had enough. I ordered fire tv from amazon last night and am going to get an antenna from radio shack today. I'll use my family's cox login to get hbo and espn so the only thing I will miss is the Nuggets games which I can listen to on the radio.

So you didn't and couldn't cut cable. You leeched off a family member's account so wouldn't have to pay for it, how honorable.

I pay $150 for uverse cable (including HBO,SHO,STARZ etc) and internet.
The convenience outweighs saving $75-100/month imo.

We are probably moving at the end of the month. Currently we have DirecTv and we have internet through AT&T. We also have a digital antenna we use as a backup when the DTV goes out (not often). And we also have a Roku.
our DTV contract expired last month, I did not renew because I don't know what we are going to do when we move. I am thinking we will move the AT&T internet, but not the DirecTv. We'll probably do without TV service until the fall, and then we'll see who is running specials between DTV, UVerse, and Cox.
Another thing to keep an eye on is this idea of streaming cable. There was an article a couple of weeks ago about how a few channels will be available on a streaming package sold by Dish. One of them is ESPN (but only mainline ESPN). If this works out well, I can see other channels starting to do the same.
The only thing our family consistently watches on cable is the ESPN family of channels and Disney Junior. And my kids have enough cartoon DVDs to keep them occupied.

You could look at it like that, but it's not really the case. I use my parents charter login to watch espn and that's it. Why pay a full cable bill when all you want is one channel? The cable companies stick it to you forcing you to pay for x number of channels when they know you don't watch 90% of them, so why not stick it back to the cable companies by sharing cable?
Netflix let's multiple users on one account, why can't cable companies?

call it what you want, I'll be saving over $100 a month

While this is true and I agree, I highly doubt this guy is going to pay anything to his parents in exchange for bumming their cable because he is too cheap.

I'm *this close* to persuading my better half to get rid of DirecTV. The digital antenna picks up more than enough TV for me. The only thing I'll miss is BBCAmerica. ATT internet, at the cheapest tier, is plenty enough bandwidth for me...it only struggles if you try to stream a 3-D movie.

I've dropped cable. Netflix, crackle, red bull TV, and BBC are enough for me.
