Crazy, 17 years old is too young to get Tommy John.
18 an LSU is paying? Yep, perfect age for me to take your money.

Terrible.
I couldn't read the whole article. Seen this kinda stuff many times when my son played ball.

Glads its not just me that thinks these parents as a whole group are over board.

Completely agree with everything he said.
Parents are overboard and it has become insane.
Kids aren't even kids anymore. It's like they have jobs.
It's fricking dumb.

I remember the days when my father fondly thought I would play for the Tide golf or football team, rather than a degenerate hedonist.

quote:Parents and sometimes coaches are just the worst. I played a TON of ball growing up. But thanks to my dad not being a moron I never had any problems. Didn't matter who I played for, he'd tell every coach how use me. I know that sounds crazy but I promise it wasn't. I wasn't allowed to pitch but every so often and had a strict pitch count and even sat out games to get rest. And he'd drive me to those games to watch and support my friends.

Hell, my senior year I think I only threw 48 innings. My dad is old school as hell but he had a prophetic eye for what was happening in baseball while I was growing up and refused to have coaches use me like it was game 7 of the World Series every week from 13-17. Seeing how my dad acted and how some of my friend's dads acted really opened my eyes to how lucky I was.
You don't need to kill yourself for a college scholarship or potentially a draft selection. I've just finished the whole process so if any parents here ever have any questions I could give some advice.

Not anymore. Was drafted out of HS and played for 5 years. Had a pretty rough minor league career to say the least
Labrum surgery finally ended my "career" in 2012 haha

A relative may have done that. He specializes in shoulders and elbows now, used to do knees and other orthopaedic prodecures but has cut down a lot.

May have done my surgery or had to get surgery?
Posted on 1/15/15 at 1:00 am to ReauxlTide222
Did your surgery. Was it in Birmingham?

Yup.
My kids will play seasonal sports: Football in the fall, Basketball in the winter and Baseball in the spring.

Oh no, I had it at Northwestern University. Forget the doctor's name though.

I will teach mine to golf, punt, kick, and play instruments. Beyond that, I will leave them to their own devices. My father had me playing basketball, baseball, football, and golf year-round for 11 years. That shite ain't fun.

quote:You ain't kidding. One summer I was throwin back some Scooby snacks in the back seat on the way to some weekend game. Told my dad I didn't wanna play baseball anymore. He asked me if I was sure, had me call the coach to tell him my reasons for quitting on my team, and turned the car around. That's heavy shite for a 13 year old!

I got a fricking switch for not being ready for practice at 12 years old.

Believe me, my father is absolutely is/was that type. He just didn't wanna push me AT ALL in sports.
