Would the Chavis approach work better by not having DL over pressure the QB?

If only LSU had played West Virginia that season so that we could compare and contrast...

Geno Smith did pass for 38/65 for 463 yards, 2 TDs against LSU. They ran for another 70 as a team.

LSU piled up 366 yards of total offense: 180 in the air from Lee and 186 on the ground.

But WVU turned the ball over 4 times and turned it over on downs once. Mo Claiborne housed a kickoff return. Out of 15 drives, WVU got in the red zone only 3 times. They started 6 drives inside their own 10 yard line. 10 of their drives went for less than 40 yards and 5 of those resulted in turning the ball over either on downs, INT or fumble.

So yes, Chavis gave up a shitton of yards to Geno Smith too. Difference was turnovers and special teams.

Reading the recaps and box scores from that 2011 LSU team still blows me away.

He didn't coach the game Regardless of the semantics, Steele confirmed Thursday in a text message to ESPN.com that he will not return to Clemson in 2012.

The decision followed one of the program's worst defensive performances, as Clemson suffered an embarrassing 70-33 loss to West Virginia in the Discover Orange Bowl. The 70 points were the most points scored by a team in any bowl game.

The difference was Mathieu doing things that only Mathieu does: he takes what he wants

Difference was talent. We had some beasts on the defense. Clemson lost most of their DB starters from the year before.

Pendergast and Orgeron gave up 62 to Arizona St. It happens a good bit in current times.

In 2010 Steele and Clemson went to Auburn and held Cam Newton and crew to 424 yards. Auburn pretty much dominated our defense that year, they arguably took it easy on us in the 4th quarter.
