We know this guy's record as an x's and o's coordinator and as a hands-on coach is a dumpster fire. I'm quite concerned with his psychological problems such as fainting on game days and crying in the arms of another coach. And hey, you can be a loser as a head coach and it not necessarily be a bad sign, but this guy was a TOTAL loser.

Now ... everyone justifies this hire by saying, "Oh, he can RECROOOOOT!!!!"

Okay, two things.

First, my poor old grandfather thought that if taking two asprin made you feel better, then taking eight would make you four times feel better.

Miles, Wilson, Orgeron, supposedly Steele ... and Wilson can specifically recruit the hell out of the NOLA area and Coach O everywhere else in the state.

There's a such thing as overkill. How many "recruiters" on staff do we need, especially when it is crucial that we have a DC that can scheme and coach? I had problems with Chavis, but his not recruiting was not a major one.

Second ... we've even had some Gump sunshine pumpers on here.

Okay--for you gumps on here or anyone else ... can someone tell me specific players that Steele recruited to the gumps that they WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN if not for Steele's recruiting prowess?

Who among those kids said: "I don't care who the head coach is, I want to be a gump because of YOU"????

And don't give me this Recruiter of the Year a decade ago business. When I was in the car business hiring dealership managers, there were plenty of broken down alcoholics that were great managers a decade ago, and tried to get a job on that basis. Doesn't work that way. It's a "what have you done for me lately?" business.

I frankly think Steele's recruiting prowess is getting blown out of proportion to put lipstick on a pig.

I'll be happy for someone to prove me wrong with specifics.

Saban was not the best coach in the nation while at LSU... He learned, he changed, he got better.

I will reserve judgement.

Why does a USL fan give a rip about LSU staff?

He pulled the number one RB recruit out of Kentucky. That's not easy

You are right...we didn't need Steele...we only needed Coach O as DC and coach in waiting.

Yes, because taking a very highly touted recruiter from our toughest opponent on the schedule is such a bad thing

Dylan Moses tweeted yesterday how thrilled he is with the hire. That should be all you need to know.

Also he was the primary recruiter for Damien Harris, the #2 overall RB in the nation THIS YEAR who is out of Kentucky and currently committed to Bama.

I see your point, but Orgeron won it over a decade ago too, and he's still regarded as one of the best in the nation. Yet few would be able to offer the proof you want vis-a-vis Steele as a recruiter.
