I dont know much about Coach O. But it would seem to me that a great DL coach and the best recruiter in the universe wouldnt be unemployed in January. Hopefully, I'm missing something very important.

He wasn't... Just sayn... LSU D needs a fire lit into their asses and I think these 2 will demand the best out of them all. DBs are spoken for so where's our weakness been LATELY??? LB/DL we have fallen off and it shouldn't of taken 1.25 years for a talent like Beckwith to be ready for the field. Chavis was a very good game day DC but the training obviously fell off somewhere? Maybe his fire isn't there? Maybe he's getting older? What ever the reason we have had some pretty good talents not living up or surpassing the expectations. We need guys to surpass expectations. Chavis to me was a "if you don't want it yourself I can't help you" type of coach and maybe we need guys that slam it to em and are a "we gonna get the best out of you if you want it or not" type of coach?

Would you be worried about being 'employed' if you could sit at home and wait on your dream job while getting paid by USC?

It's not like he was fired from USC for doing a terrible job... in fact, when they fired Kiffin for a terrible job, they handed the reins to Coach O to guide the team to the end of the season... he just wasn't retained by the new staff.

Anyway, I think there have been some potential opportunities for Coach O during his year off, but he didn't really pursue them. And I could be mistaken, but think I read some time ago he was hoping to stay in the La. area, had previously expressed some desire to join the LSU staff and had become friends with Les. To the extent any of this is true, he may have been waiting on LSU to extend an offer to him. If they didn't just hire him, I suspect he would have turned his attention to actively evaluating other opportunities. So, I wouldn't be overly concerned in this particular case that a year off is a bad sign.

He was still receiving buy out from USC. He wanted the LSU job. If he had not gotten it, he would still be receiving money from USC.

To me it seemed like LSU or just stay taking time off and collecting a check. He didn't want to be anywhere else.
