Mickey plays NO defense...just tries to time blocks.
I don't think that's true at all. He doesn't always position himself optimally, but when he's in the middle people are less likely to drive at him, and he doesn't just feast on help defense blocks, he got at least one really nice block as an on ball defender last night. Probably others I didn't see.
He's not flawless, but to say he plays "NO defense" is a little tarded.

True but not saying much.....

I see both of the JM's needing to get tougher; especially when it comes to playing base defense and rebounding. Yes, they can both elevate and Mickey is a good shot swatter but the fierce, competitive side of top-level basketball is what I see them lacking. Quarterman has that attitude I'm speaking of. From what I've seen of Simmons he has it too. To maximize their great potential, the JM's need to find it.

Martin looks terrible as the point man in our full court press. It looks like a combo of being too slow or fatigued combined with poor spacing and effort. Bridgewater cut angles better and actually looked to be busting his arse, which is needed in that role. If we stick with the press, I think Martin needs to be the safety man.

He's no good in the back of the press, Mickey is much more suited back there protecting the rim

Not at all, Mickey has shown attitude and plays hard, I'm not sure that Martin does. And to say that Mickey plays no defense is asinine, he held Marcus Thornton, one of the best bigs in the SEC, to under 50% from the floor while playing 48 minutes, an incredible amount for a college big man. His offensive game needs to improve, but his defense is already top notch.

Agreed, Coleman and Morgan were stellar at that last year. We have no one who can bird dog like those two, but I think we probably have better options that Martin. All he really brings to that is length.

needs toi decide if he is gonna be a power forward that can shoot (Lebron type) or a passive shooting forward (Nowitzki type).

I was wondering why CJJ didn't go with 4 guards and Mickey after Jarell fouled out, Malone was playing the Mickey role and Mickey was playing the ball chaser, seems like Gray-1/4man-Patterson-Hornsby-Mickey would've been a better lineup at that point in the game

They both have no chance at first round. I've said this all along neither can create their own shot, neither can explode to the rim, neither can play on ball D. Just above average college players right now. If they leave they will be D League/International at best . They could develop here with more year and possibly get in the first round . A lot will depend on their handlers .

They are both D league talent right now or European League players.

I've only gotten to see 3 games this year but from what I've seen, Mickey may be a more valuable player for us right now but Martin is the guy most likely to make it in the NBA. I don't really see Mickey getting a significant role in the NBA unless he improves in a lot of areas. Just my opinion

Worst excuse I've heard in a long time.
These are college kids with fresh legs. This isn't the NBA, with older guys playing 82+ games per year.
We're only 15 games into our season. Two games per week isn't a problem for college players. College kids can play with intensity each night.
Stop with the ridiculous excuse-making.
Martin played 39 minutes even though he fouled out yesterday. Mickey played 48 minutes.
All of those minutes are while LSU is pressing the other team on defense. If you don't think ball players need any rest during games then you don't know basketball. Further, the players tend to pace themselves a lot more so they don't literally pass out later on. That "pacing" doesn't help either.

Believe me, I know basketball.

quote:And yet you claim players don't need rest. You believe that Martin and Mickey can play with intensity and at a high level while pressing and playing tough D for 40+ minutes a game? Please show me where this is so common in college basketball.
Believe me, I know basketball.

Martin and Mickey look weaker because they are. Going against Seniors will do that.
