Saw it yesterday. Yes, the stuff with LBJ was fictionalized and that bothered me, but LBJ was a mean SOB anyway and I do know that he was trying to use/manipulate King in many ways. So, while the conversations are fictionalized, using LBJ to represent the white establishment that did oppose Civil Rights was a type of shorthand that I didn't have a huge problem with.

David Oyelowo did a great job as MLK. I felt like I was really watching him at times. Movie didn't pull punches on King. Showed good and bad and also showed the controversy with him and SNCC and Malcolm X. Even had a line where they called him, "Da Lawd," in a mocking way. And, Oprah did not talk that much and only had a few scenes, so that was good.

The Alabama history part was right except the night raid where Johnnie Lee Jackson was murdered happened in Marion instead of Selma.

Powerful movie that was well acted and directed. We have not had a Civil Rights movie like this that really looked at the Movement from the inside and from a Black perspective.

I am a White Southerner and I really liked it. It paints the White South in a pretty terrible light, but things were pretty terrible back then and the story needs to be told.

Good movie. 4/5 stars or whatever.

Very good, indeed. Definitely one of the year's best.

Agreed. Excellent portrayal. I too felt like I was watching MLK himself.

The most moving part of the movie for me was King's conversation with Johnnie Lee Jackson's father at the morgue. Damn good acting by both. That scene really got me.

I just don't think I can watch it objectively given Oprah's involvement. I question motives too much watching those clowns.

Why? Because she's a rich black woman? What reason do you have to hate her?

I am white. A native Southerner. My ancestors owned slaves and fough in the Civil War.

I felt no guilt.

What are you talking about? A white guilt movie? Why do white people say this? It is the height of stupidity.

It is what happened. The white establishment in the South was full of hate and bigotry and fear as they tried to maintain their position. It was insane. Why does that truth make you feel guilty? It doesn't make me feel guilty because I didn't do it. But, denying it or acting like it didn't happen would make me stupid.

I love studying the Civil Rights Movement. Black people were right in what they fought for and the white people who opposed them were wrong. It is an amazing part of history full of courage and struggle and tragedy. This movie shows that well.

We should know our own history. Except for a few points (and every movie fictionalizes things to tell the story), this movie did a good job of telling that history.

Because they are ignorant and stupid. I can understand not wanting to see a movie that Oprah is involved with because she annoys you. Ok, fine. However, the notion that every movie dealing with Civil Rights, slavery, or a primarily black cast is a 'white guilt' movie is chicken shite logic for close-minded fools and barely concealed bigotry.

It was a legitimately entertaining, well made movie and I say as someone who abhors the current state of race obsession in America. It's sad that some are so obsessed and wrapped up in their political ideology that it prevents them from enjoying a fricking movie.

Oprah did not have a huge role in the movie. I don't like her either. There were some things that were wrong historically, but the overall thrust of the story was right. And, there were some things covered that really showed MLK's flaws and issues within the different groups - jealousy, competition, etc.

Overall, the movie was very good. Except for the LBJ stuff, what happened in Alabama is what really happened. Horrible things.

Because I'm tired of oprah and people like that shoving this shite down our throat

It has a 100% on RT because critics are scared to be called racist if they rip it. Sharpton and jesse Jackson and the race baiters will be all over them

Oprah is the biggest racist since Jamie Foxx
