We went 20 starts with subpar MLB play and the ENTIRE scheme is predicated on having an MLB who can play. Go find one. John Chavis, everybody!

19 starts.

If minter had stayed it would have been 6 starts. Minter blew up in 2012. No predicting that.

Why do people keep bringing this up? 08 squad not nearly as talented. And we wouldnt have co dcs. Wed have a guy that played linebacker for the savior and coached under the savior for 6 years. Why can't he just do what chavis did? Maybe little to no drop off in play calling. Either way we still need the o to improve.

I don't think Brick is DC material, otherwise he would be gone or Miles would have already promoted him. Problem is what DC are available. Got a bad feeling about this.Looks like we will be settling...........

Because the 09 defense was MUCH better with basically the same personnel--showing that who the coordinator was mattered. It is very similar to this situation.

It took Beckwith (just one example), 2 years to learn Chavis system well enough to finally supplant Welter.(think about Jamal Adams too). Like most of you, I was "all for" bringing in a proven commodity at D.C. (LSU being too big of a program to promote from within). But the more I think about it, especially considering the recent developments (other coaches not materializing ). Maybe we should just promote Brick & bring in coach Orgeron. Vs players having to learn a complicated new system.

Beckwith wasn't learning the system. He was learning the basics of playing middle linebacker…and developing the instincts that go along with playing middle linebacker.

Chavis literally runs the simplest defense in the nation.
