Knew a few people that went to Thailand. I'm currently looking at Mongolia or maybe Russia. Been working in banking 3 years. I looked at France and evidently you need the equivalent of a Masters in English. For the Czech Replublic it appears you need to have certifications (TESOL or TEFL). Is anyone familiar with these certifications. For Mongolia I don't believe you need certification. How difficult are they to obtain?

Do you actually know the languages of the places you are looking at? I knew I guy who went to Japan to teach English, but he speaks Japanese very fluently.

I thought people did this in order to put off getting a job in America.

For Thailand and Korea the standards to teach abroad aren't as strict as Europe. I never did it but I wanted to. Afghanistan would welcome you in open arms

I knew one too. He now sells real estate in Oregon.

I knew a chick that did it - this was years ago.
She went to Japan. We all laughed at how eff'ed those particular Jap's English would be, and were especially puzzled and curious about their accent. They were learning English from a chick who was born and raised in Reserve, La, and before she went to Japan, she'd not been east much further than Destin, and hadn't made it out of Louisiana's borders when headed north or west.

Had a buddy do it in Korea for 2 years. He doesn't know Korean. He loved it. Made decent money and his housing was taken care of as well. He met a lot of people from all over the world and used breaks to go travel on that side of the world. Japan, Thailand, Australia, etc etc. He said it was awesome and the kids in Korea are extremely well behaved and respectful. No discipline problems.

A friend went to Japan and taught English, but he had a minor in Japanese.

My sister in law does this. She just left Korea, and went to Syria or Turkey I don't remember which. She teaches English

What foreign language do you speak?
My cousin taught English in Honduras the year after she graduated
Now she teaches Spanish in the US

I don't speak any foreign languages. It isn't a prerequisite for most of these programs as far as I know.
