Our offense isn't what failed us against Bama and ND.

So why doesn't Les Miles just hire you? You know, since it doesn't matter. Then we can be fully depedent on the offense to win every game and we may win 1 game. Maybe.

if you look behind the numbers in '14 the stats you refer to are misleading as hell. yes, we held our 12 opponents to the least avg yard per game. whoopee!

MSU and Auburn completely dominated our defense. so did Arkansas and notre dame. we got our stats against cupcakes and it just so happens our cupcakes didn't score.

you can blame the offense all uyou want, and they certainly contributed to this mediocre season but our defense was poreous and it allowed the other team to chip away for first downs and stay on the field. Kelly's game planned the Chavis D perfectly. bend, don't break shite doesn't always work.

imo, Chavis got exposed this year. he's good but has some weaknesses that simply prevent most championship runs. his weaknesses are recruiting and developing (either or both) defensive linemen and linebackers. and he was the linebacker coach. his style of using undersized guys doesn't work unless the middle can be plugged and pressure can be applied to the QB . his defenses, with some exceptions, never did that. yes, 2011 was one of those exceptions. we have had the best D secondary and a poor front 7 for most of the time he was here, certainly, the last 3 years (the years where all the players were recruited under his watch).

so the DC matters A LOT. we need to get someone that can get our D back to what it was when Chavis arrived and give our damn offense a chance to grow up.

I mean, his defenses at A&M are not likely to be on the field 70% of the game.

Uh, that's not really a ball-control team he's going to...Chavis's defenses will be on the field, a lot...Now their offense may be very effective, but that will still increase the amount his D is on the field...Just better hope the offense scores when A$M has the ball.

Look no further than Chavis at Tennessee. His D's precipitously declined after 2004 or so.

You could have the 2000 Baltimore Ravens out there, it wouldn't matter.

We're undefeated if we had that defense - they only gave up 52 points in 4 losses to NFL teams. 4 shutouts, and a touchdown or less 5 other times, including the Super Bowl.

And this was with an offense that was - to put it kindly - inconsistent.

As bad as our offense has been the last several years (except 2013), most of the lhe losses were due to late game defensive collapses.

The offense has been bad, but the D has given up late leads consitently.

Given that, yes the DC does matter.

Chavis was good......his defenses didn't close out the games even our shitty offense had a lead in the 4th quarter which does matter.

Another half-brain posting......LMFAO

Oh, so you think a whopping 13 points should be enough to win a game against Bama?

your dumb..... you say we still loss 5 games with the 1 D .....

first off 2 of the 5 losses was because the d gave up last minute drives to lose the game ....

so a better dc and scheme can solve that problem .

second off ... we played with a whole new offense that is sure to improve next season .....

with better offensive play and a good dc hire our miserable 5 loss season could easily turn into a 2 , maybe even a 1 loss season ....

Miles has a good staff if he would JUST STAY OUT OF THEIR WAY AND LET THEM COACH. True as far as some late game let downs by the DEFENSE. BUT those game should not have been close with any OFFENSE at all instead of 3 plays up the middle and punt and defense back on the field, they can only do so much. MILES gets a 3 POINT LEAD in the 1st Quarter & he tries to sit on it the remainder of the game with his 3 and out then punt AND THEN WHEN THE DEFENSE DON'T WIN IT, HERE COMES THE PUMPERS

No-one had a good defense in the SEC this year. Being #1 isn't what is was like two years ago. Defense is the glue that holds this team together. If this fails than we will become as good as Tennessee Arkansas and others like them.
