You do understand, one of the major reasons for a larger obj lense is to help with the optics ability to gather light, don't you? The OP is complaining of this very issue. When hunting in poor light conditions a larger lense with a higher % light transmission is what you want. Science, math, English bruh...you dumb.

Your eyes ability to use all this extra light is negligible. All you're doing is increasing cost, weight and distance from the bore.
You'd be better served spending the same money on a higher quality scope in a smaller obj.

I understand his point that a 56mm may not be needed in all applications and it does add weight to the scope. High quality glass is better for light transition that objective lens size but the meopta meostar in 56mm seemed to let the most light in out of the scopes I looked at.

I will say one thing about the larger objective scopes is that you can see brighter at a higher magnification than a smaller one.
Personally I want a smaller one cause to me the 50mm feels unnaturally high off the stock. Like on a 30-30 with see-thru mount.

everyone has their own thing. I have several guns i hunt with, depending on where im at, each have different scopes for different reasons. 30-30 with nikon 3-9x40 if in woods with 30-75yard shot
308 with leupold 4-12x40 if hunting smaller food plots
270wsm leupold 3.5-10x56 if hunting large bean fields, pipelines, etc.
also take a 243 with a mueller, and 25-06 and 7mm-08 and each has nikon 3-9x40 scopes. By far the 56mm leupold is my favorite.

leupold fixed this with its 56mm the way they have moon shaped bottom

This is true. Each scope has a sweet spot that will transmit the most light but I forget the math formula used. I do remember that my bigger mm scopes were more magnification than my smaller mm scopes.

Leupold 30mm high if it's a 30mm tube should work. My leupold VX7 is 34mm tube so my selection was limited.

Right VX-L I believe. I have yet to talk to a single person who owns one. My thinking is by the time you remove that half moon you've taken away light gathering surface area, and are probably closer to a 50mm so are you really gaining anything?
If there is an advantage it's been out for a while so why hasn't anyone attempted to mock it?
I wish more companies would make options like the the leupold vx-6... They have a 2-12x42 in a 30mm tube

Objective diameter / magnication power = exit pupil
The human eye can dilate upto ~7mm in darkness so you want to be around that range.
Ex. 40mm/5x=8mm exit pupil
56mm/8x=7mm exit pupil

I love the concept of the VX-L... Couple things ran through my head when I looked at them, some of them was in the earlier post. What kind of scope cover do you use? The neoprene one piece?
Do we have a resident scope reviewer on the OB like bapple is for pistols?

Trijicon, good light gathering and great target acquisition with Amber dot. My 11 year old shot a doe at 225 ydrs with one on Tikka 3 lite 7mm08.
