Bringing Alcohol Into US?

Is it legal to bring alcohol into the US in a checked bag and if so how much? If I can't what happens if I bring it, don't declare it and just play dumb? They just confiscate it if I get randomly searched right?

Something like two handles of hard liquor and two bottles of wine, right? They'll know at duty free

supposed to declare it in customs

Never been an issue when I've done it. They've got bigger problems than some guy bringing a little extra booze

Figured but I didn't know if there was some old grandfathered Prohibition rule or something. Plus those Customs folks always seem like such pricks.

I went through in Miami of all places and remarked how little they checked me or my bags. I definitely could've smuggled in a few kilos of coke. But if I did, I bet those little beagles they have wouldn't have seemed so cute.

I'm pretty sure I declared most of mine too. May have been some extra but not a ton. As mentioned you're allowed a decent amount

I've brought in 6-8 bottles of wine in at a time, declared the value, and never had a problem.

Well hell yea.
In this tiny little Mexican fishing village and this old dude brings me a glass of his homemade tequila. The shite literally goes down smoother than a 30 year scotch and has a smoky taste I've never had in a tequila. It's incredible.
I'm filling every water bottle and cantina I got hahaha!

I always just drink it while overseas and buy more when I get Stateside.

store as much booze as you can in your bloodstream. they wont look there for it

Some beer people I know take extra suitcases filled with bubble wrap to Europe and load up. Just pack well and you shouldn't have a problem.

If you declare it and you're not bringing it for commercial use, you're good. One 750 ml bottle is duty free for sure but it might be more. And if they catch you sneaking in more than what you declare, you want to amend your card or they can prosecute.

Brought back 3-4 bottles of wine last time I went to France. The only thing they stopped me for was a jar of honey that I declared. Had to wait 30 min for them to tell me I was fine.
It was odd because my buddy brought back loose leaf tea tied up in individual cellophane bags that looked like pot. He went right on through.

Yes and the number of bottles depends on where you are bringing it from.

Off the top of my head you may bring in 2 liters duty free ie at no charge. you may bring in as much as you like IF you declare it and pay the taxes. If they find it and you did not declare it ( reasonable amounts) you most likely will be directed to a window to pay the required duties on the spot so it is no big issue. I may be off on the 2 liters as it changes but the gist is the same.
