Truck won't start and it's been giving me a little trouble for a little over a month but was only first thing in the morning or if had been sitting for a long time. It would act like it was hesitant to start and it was mostly on cold morning so I figured it was from the weather. Well now it won't turn over at all, battery is good and so are fuses. When I try to start it just sounds real weak and after I turn it over it will continue to try and crank for a few seconds even if I'm not turning the key myself. Any ideas what it could be.....?

Starter probably sticking. Hit it with a hammer and go pick up a new one

How do you know the battery is good? They can fool ya sometimes.

How old is said truck?
Sounds like a bad battery like the other guy said they will fool you.

2010. Hooked it up to tester and checked fuses to hot connection. Also had it hooked up to 12v jump pack when tried to start.

I'm still gonna go with bad battery. Those booster packs aren't very reliable, especially if the battery is completely dead. If that's the original battery, it's over 4 years old, your about due for a new one anyway.

Is that the original battery? If it is replace it. Forget what the tester says. GM batteries can be real tricky. Check corrosion on the battery terminals and cables. Then check the positive cable at the starter end to ensure a good connection and do the same with the ground cable.

No the battery is about a year old. I did clean the terminals and nothing. Wouldn't it have started when I jumped it off?

That's just the latching relay on the start. Most newer vehicles have that. You no longer have to turn and hold the key. Just bump it and the relay will latch in and start the vehicle, or time out in the event it doesn't.

Any idea of what the problem might be?

You could have cable problems. As I said check both ends of each cable. It sounds like a connectivity problem. If there is corrosion between the cable and the battery post and you try to jump it you are connecting the jumper cables to the outside of the battery cables and not the battery post/terminal itself. If it is a side post the corrosion is hard to see. If you are not sure what you are looking at bring to a good shop.

Check Engine light on?

Just came on yesterday, same day it wouldn't start.
Posted on 12/28/14 at 3:04 pm to TigerSaint1
Well that might be important. Did you check the ground and cable at the starter?

The CEL came on the last time it was running, or do you mean now that it don't crank?

Go to an auto parts store and get a scanner. They're not that expensive for a basic one. It'll give you a code, then Google it and go from there.

Autozone will scan it for free

" Well now it won't turn over at all, battery is good and so are fuses. When I try to start it just sounds real weak"
This is a little confusing. I want to make sure we're helping the right problem. If it won't turn over at all, that could be several things. If its weak, then that's either the battery, the starter, or the cables in between.
There's no code that will tell you why a truck won't turn over.
