NYPD Cops Turn Backs on Mayor DeBlasio At Slain Officer’s Funeral

Mayor de Blasio tried to make peace with the NYPD Saturday, but again was met by a Blue Wall of Resentment.
As he took the podium Saturday at the funeral of P.O. Rafael Ramos, thousands of police officers outside the church turned their backs to the video monitors showing the mayor giving his eulogy inside.
In a gradual wave, the assembled cops nearest the screens and speakers on Myrtle Avenue began to about-face, until the entire sea of blue stretching two blocks had their backs to the image of the city’s leader.
“Our hearts are aching today. We can feel it physically. We feel it deeply. New York City has lost a hero — a remarkable man because of the depths of his commitment to all around him,” de Blasio said of P.O. Rafael Ramos.
As he acknowledged the fallen officer’s family, de Blasio reached out to the still-seething rank-and-file. “I extend my condolences to another family — the family of the NYPD that is hurting so deeply right now, men and women feeling this loss so personally, so deeply, as their families feel the loss as well,” said de Blasio.
Officers outside chatted and generally ignored the eulogy until de Blasio began to speak in Spanish, which prompted snickers.
quote:
Earlier that night, when de Blasio approached a group of NYPD’s Finest and said, “We’re all in this together,” a stone-faced officer replied, “No, we’re not.”
Many cops have blamed de Blasio for helping to create a climate of distrust in cops, turning them into targets as protests against police brutality swept through the city in the wake of a Staten Island grand jury’s decision not to indict a cop in the July chokehold death of Eric Garner.
They pointed to de Blasio’s comments in which he called an assault by Brooklyn Bridge protesters on two NYPD lieutenants an “alleged” assault, even as dramatic video of the attack emerged.
De Blasio revealed in an ABC News interview earlier this month that he and First Lady Chirlane McCray had instructed their biracial son, Dante, about the “dangers” that police pose.
Things got so heated in the weeks leading up to the killings of Ramos and Liu, the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association’s demanded that de Blasio stay away from the funerals of officers who could be cut down in the line of duty — a request the mayor did not oblige.
A coalition of retired NYPD cops took their anger to new heights Friday by hiring a pilot to fly across the cities skies for hours with the sign, “De Blasio, Our Backs Have Turned To You.”

I seriously haven't followed this, because I don't care, but what did DeBlasio do or say in this situation that got all of this going?

I don't think he was secretive about his beliefs while running for office. NYC has the mayor it wants and I think the turmoil is amusing.

I am done with those idiiots - The squandered all the good will I harbored for them after 9/11 and the Guliani years.
As far as I am concerned they can walk amongst gang violence every day while they look for the last honest cop to smear. Screw em.

NYPD is the department just about every other large department looks to for ideas, training and tactics. They are the ones on the cutting edge of Law Enforcement. NYPD has some very bright minds that have advanced LE for the whole country.
This mayor and his goons are doing what they can to destroy them.

Yeah - I am all in for the NYPD at the moment, but I fear they will eventually be emasculated by the libtards like every thing else they touch.

And the better officers will leave for Federal jobs or for other departments leaving behind the ones that libs should truly be scared of.

God forbid a city leader hold his subordinates accountable for their trend of shitty, illegal behavior, instead of just holding benevolent to their union contributions6.
How dare the mayor have an accurate moral conscience! The nerve! Just blindly support police and their unions like all your predecessors. Don't you know that's what will get you re-elected?
frick the NYPD and their blind loyalty to the shield! Hold your own accountable and you may find yourself getting more respect from the general public. Until then, you deserve the scorn you get, and the mayor is right for not blindly supporting your TREND of criminal behavior.
Not a DAMN thing Deblassio did to contribute to the deaths of these two officers, but not even police are above making a political point.

Complaints of alleged police wrongdoing in New York City have hit a record level of 5,601 — a 150 percent increase from 2006 — and when the claims were settled or went to trial, they have cost the city over $315 million from 2006 to 2012, according to latest figures released by the city.

On average, New York City pays about $45 million a year to settle or pay plaintiffs who have won in court on police-related claims, which are defined as "alleged improper police conduct, such as false arrest or imprisonment, shooting of a suspect, excessive force, assault or failure to provide police protection."

What is the political point being made by nypd?
Posted on 12/27/14 at 4:30 pm to Beauregard96
A figurative lack of confidence, displayed in very public settings,in their leader because he had the audacity to sympathize with the "other side".
If he would have "towed the line", whether morally right our not, they wouldn't be showing their arse as they are now.
It's already been proven that there are morons on this board who try and lay blame on Deblassio for these deaths, this insubordination just further encourages that idiocy.

I don't think a slain officer's funeral is the appropriate time or place to make a political statement, regardless of how much they resent or blame de Blasio.

Agreed.
It's a shitty time and setting to make a political point and big frick you to the victim's family who just had their lives torn apart and are grieving like hell. Cops owe the victim's family an apology.

So I need to C&P sentrius's post? Or are you ok reading it yourself? And that's just for NYPD. Nation wide the trend is just as bad.
And I don't blame individual officers. They perform as they are trained.

Let’s thank Reverend Sharpton.”
