I'd argue they were basically the same during their tenures here.

So you feel that LSU will always be 2nd rate to Alabama as a program? That is the message being sent by those that feel Miles is a better coach.
Wow you really nailed it, man. Thanks for putting it all out there.

LSU has the better coach. Just not enough money to pay the recruits and refs.

Fire Saban! Oh.... Wait
Posted on 12/25/14 at 7:51 pm to Laman1978
LSU isn't spending enough money on staff for starters. You can't expect to beat Alabama if you pay your staff peanuts. No matter if you have the greatest coach of all time in Miles. A staff is only as good as it's weakest link and Chavis is the staff's weakest link.

Yes. Saban has definitely progressed. Yes, I think he's a better coach than Miles has been since the last time we beat them. I also think Saban will go down as probably the best CFB coach of all time, no other coach in the country is doing what he's been doing. Yes, I doubt our ability to hire the next best coach of all time. The next few years, Bama will be a huge challenge for us, and every other team in college football.
Good thing is he won't be there forever, and Bama will fall back again. God help the guy that replaces Saban. Gonna suck for the guy that follows Miles too.

Their football budget is like $10 mil more than ours, yet we beat them in ticket sales last year.
They spent $116.6 million last year.
LSU spent $105.3 million last year.
Contrary to popular belief, The bonuses and pay to the entire staff at bama is a lot higher than LSU. There is more to that number than what we pay Cameron and Chavis.
They also spent a lil over $600k more on recruiting than we did. Now what on exactly? I have no clue. So we finished #2 in recruiting spending that much less. Sounds to me wed be the ones pulling in top ranked class after class if we expanded the recruiting budget.

The two biggest areas are facilities and recruiting budget. Not paying recruits, of course, but they're able to recruit nationally like few other places are.

quote:I just don't agree with you whatsoever. LSU doesn't recruit nationally when they need to? Did LSU not just expend Death Valley to 100 plus? It also seems like they renovate the locker room every 5 years. I'm not exactly sure where else you want them to spend money.

I'm not saying that Les isn't a good coach, but he is not Nick Saban. Just calling a spade a spade.

I'm not suggesting that LSU is hurting, but the amount of money Bama puts into football is unreal.
Posted on 12/25/14 at 8:12 pm to Laman1978
I think it is fair. What isn't fair is the constant bull shite about LSU having the highest paid staff. They may have two of the highest paid assistants, but not the entire football staff. A lot more goes into a program other than a few assistant coaches. People just can't see that.

Texas and Michigan dwarf everyone else. Texas a cool $146.8 mil and Michigan $131 mil. Look where they are rt now. Not doing shite.

This one of the best, rational & more accurate post I've read on the Rant.

According to USA Today, LSU's staff is collectively the highest paid in the NCAA. Bama is second, but their bonuses do appear to be better overall than LSU's. The way Bama's staff produces, their bonuses have been earned.
You can quibble over how each team pays its assistants to get to its base number, but Bama and LSU are the only schools that paid assistants a combined total of more than $5 million in 2014. You may not like what people have to say about LSU's coaching staff, but it ain't bullshite that their salaries are pretty much even with Bama's, and better than everyone else.

Total staff salaries are in the far right column. Bonus money is one slot to the left of that.
