The problem is that smart people aren't reproducing like dumb people....and it benefits society at large to have smart people have babies.
Look at Europe and how the only people over there having a positive birth rate are Muslim immigrants. Germany is practically bribing/throwing benefits at its citizens to reproduce.

I've never thought that way.
I think some people who stay single do so for selfish reasons, but that's a whole different thread.

People can have kids or not. Happy people are happy. Miserable people are miserable. Doesn't matter if they have kids or not.
I personally believe you don't know what true absolute love is till you have kids though.

By the definition of the word, it is selfish, but it shouldn't be looked upon in a negative light, IMO. People keep asking when my wife and I are going to have kids, it's annoying. We'll fricking let you know when my wife gets pregnant, right now we're being responsible and not having kids until we're ready.

I surely wouldn't consider it selfish but I would definitely consider it a mistake. So much love and joy they bring with all the bullshite too.
