Bobby Hebert said a few weeks ago that Sean Payton wanted to trade up to pick Hill in the early 2nd round but Loomis didn't agree so they stayed at 58 to pick Jean-Baptiste. SMH

Funny thing is, he is doing EXACTLY, what he did at LSU. breaking off these long runs. He has about 3-4 from 50+ yards out.

And balance
Perhaps the thing that I wish LF will learn over time. Hill NEVER went down on first contact, LF seems too fall over to easily. If he can make that first defender a non factor like Hill could, Leonard would be breaking off 40+ yard runs more often.

If you watch a lot of guys, they do the same thing. I know guys get stronger and faster, but your instincts kick in when out there. Hill has run the same way since I first saw him in high school.

4.66 is about right for a back of his size. It's not blazing but it's plenty fast.

"football speed" is a real thing. Some guys ran fast in a sprint with no pads and just going against a stop watch. Other guys, like Hill, run fast when it really counts - in pads during live action. Dude is a bad arse.

That's what I loved about Hill. He didn't just seek out a defender. He absorbed contact (when necessary)and had the balance to stay on his feet and break off big runs. I think the run against A&M proved Fournette has that ability.

Off topic, but what was Hills average carries per game last year? Seems like we are under utilizing our best players! : dudes a Beast

4.66 at is size is pretty fast

40 time without pads on and game speed are completely different.
TM ran a 4.50 at th combine. Jared Cook ran a 4.50 as well. Yet TM ran his arse down and forced a fumble.

Wasn't it Hill that didn't have "elite speed" according to one scouting report last year? All I know is that he outran an entire NFL defense tonight.

Whoever said that obviously didn't watch much film...Hill consistently ran away from SEC defensive backs while he was here.

jesus christ, he carried the ball over 200 times last year. we had over 2600 yards as a team rushing and averaged 5 yards a carry as a team. we didn't underutilize anyone on offense last season. we had one of the most efficient offenses in the country. this is the most tired narrative on this site right now. our defense is why we didn't win a national title last year. we couldn't stop georgia and couldn't stop alabama. the one game our offense was bad was all on mettenberger throwing 3 first half picks against ole miss

I think the slowest fast guy I ever saw was that giraffe legged white boy QB Arkansas had back in the day. The dudes leg speed could be measured with a sun dial, but by Gawd he could cover the distance between two points in less time than anyone else on the field. Fast - I mean quintessential fast guys - ususally conjure up thoughts of graceful, balanced, formed running. That dude was as graceful as a splitting maul, but he could flat out run.

Acceleration and agility are both more important than straight line speed for RBs. With that said, JH possesses quality in all three traits. Power and perennial vision are also very important. He is exceptionally gifted there as well.

That arkansas quarterback was Matt jones. He actually ended up playing wide receiver in the NFL. I think if I'm not mistaken, his career ended after a couple arrests (cocaine use) dude was crazy fast thougb. 6'6 240 and ran a 4.37 at the combine. I always hated watching that dude play LSU

That's him. I thought it was Matt something or other.
Not really appropriate for this thread \ board, but if anyone's still following the thread, do yall remember that guy looking slow as well.

On that 80 yard run last night he accelerated at about 50 yards in.

Shaun Alexander ran a 4.77 at the combine. Hill is a beast and broke off long runs in pads. He is one of the best in the nfl.
