The Mayor chose to separate himself from the NYPD and side with the agitators for political reasons and now that there are two murdered cops, there are consequences for him to face.

Why does he have to choose between supporting law enforcement or protestors? Is acknowledging the concerns of one community necessarily abandoning the other? Seems to me like the NYPD is, and has been, indifferent to the concerns of those their policing. Their defensive and hostile reaction to criticism is part of the problem, and contributes to the current environment. That mentality needs to change, across law enforcement. They don't get to demand absolute loyalty to the exclusion of citizens' concerns.

They won't be welcome in the communities they're policing, good intentions or not, if they're indifferent to, and removed from, the concerns of the people they're policing.

Did he separate from the entire department or just "rear naked choke" cop? I can see how he had to separate himself from situation and not take a side really.

The actions of one dumbass cop and one psycho frick should not fester like this. There hasn't been enough time to fester.
